Education

Greenfield Lake

River Watch has developed a wide-ranging environmental education curriculum at its Greenfield Lake facility. Three or more 60-90 minute lessons, taught by a professional naturalist, can be strung together for an exciting introduction to the wetlands environment that children (and teachers) will long remember.

Enviroscape

River Watch has been offering its exciting Enviroscape presentation to all 8th grade classrooms in New Hanove County Schools for several years now. These interactive models dramatically demonstrate water pollution's dangers and prevention in a way students can enthusiastically grasp.

First Saturday Seminars

Now in its seventh year, River Watch's First Saturday Seminars have featured speakers from government, academia and industry. Topics as diverse as Piracy on the Cape Fear River and Testing for Mercury Levels in Fish have been discussed at River Watch's Surry St. Environmental Education Center. Check the Calendar for a list of upcoming seminars.

Greenfield Lake Eco-Tours

Small groups can learn all about Greenfield Lake's history, current uses, flora and fauna on a trip led by a professional naturalist in River Watch's newly restored electric launch - which replaces the venerable big red canoe. Special trips with a focus on wildlife photography, migrating birds, and plant and animal identification have also been very popular.
